A comparative study has been made on anatomy, morphology and growth characteristics of four genotypes of sorghum grain and one genotype of broom corn. The growth pattern of plant height and leaf area followed a sigmoidal pattern. The frequency of stomata and epidermal cell number varied mainly in the last phases of growth with higher number of stomata on the lower surface compared to the upper surface. There was no difference in epidermal cell frequency. The broom corn sorghum was different from other genotypes in stomatal breadth. Significant differences were observed among genotypes in grain dry weight only in three growth phases. The leaf area showed a significant correlation with plant height and at the same time the anatomical characters with the leaf area. The correlation between stomatal frequency and epidermal cell number showed a gradual increment in the early growth phases in comparision with the adult growth phases. The stomatal frequency at lower surface showed a highly positive correlation with the epidermal cell number at the same surface. The stomatal frequency of the upper surface showed positive correlation with that in the lower surface. The stomatal breadth of the upper surface showed a negative correlation with grain dry weight.
