In acute experiments on unanaesthetized immobilized with tubocurarine cats the effect of cortical electrical stimulation on the claustrum neuronal activity has been studied. The stimulation of cortical projection area suppressed the claustrum neuronal spontaneous activity. Single and low-frequency repetitive stimulations of the cortical association areas evoked a suppression of the claustrum neuronal spontaneous activity, whereas the high-frequency stimulation of the same areas evoked claustral discharges.
