Cost analysis of acacia arabica control in baluran national park east java indonesia

Cost analysis of acacia arabica control in baluran national park east java indonesia

Buletin Penelitian Hutan (505): 1-8

Acacia arabica has been planted since 1969 as a fire break in the Baluran National Park, East Java, for fire protection purposes. The A. arabica grew and spread vigorously, overshadowing the grassy forage which resulted in infestation of the feeding ground of the herbivorous game animals. Action should be taken to release the grass from completion by the Acacias. An experiment was conducted with the objective of eradication of the Acacia trees applying mechanical and chemical methods. The mechanical method used was manual uprooting of the weed trees. The chemical method used was impregnating the stem with plant chemicals by infusion. Indamine 720 HC in liquid form was fed directly into the vessels of the growing trees in dosages of 40, 55 and 75cc per tree. The costs of the mechanical method were Rp. 1.040.000 per ha and Rp. 3.795.000 per ha for the chemical method. It is concluded that the mechanical method was costing less than the chemical treatment.
