Cotton skip row studies in burundi

Annals of Agricultural Science 33(2): 891-902

Two field experiments were carried out in two locations of the Imbo region, during 1983/84 and 1984/85 seasons, to study the effect of skip-row spacing on growth and yield of the cotton cultivar Pan 575 (Gossypium hirsutum L.). The row spacing treatments were 100, 60-100 and 60-80 cm for low fertile soils, and 100, 80-100 and 60-100 cm for fertile soils. The data obtained showed that row spacing treatments had no effect on plant growth and yield components per plant. The yield of seed cotton per hectare increased in favour of skip-row system as a result of increasing plant population density per unit area as compared to normal row spacing. The same trend was also obtained with yield maturity, while lint percentage and seed index were slightly affected by row spacing patterns.
