Cough as the main symptom of bronchial asthma

Cough as the main symptom of bronchial asthma

Zhonghua Jie He He Hu Xi Za Zhi 11(1): 9-12, 61

8 Cases of cough as the main symptom of bronchial asthma are reported, and all misdiagnosed as "chronic bronchitis". For differentiation the following few points should be on the alert: (1) The majority of cases are female adult. (2) All have personal or family allergy history. (3) Cough is usually seasonal and mostly at midnight or before dawn, no fever, no or just a little sputum. 4. Normal chest X-rays. (5) All present bronchialhyperreactivity. (6) No response to antitussives, expectorants or antibiotics, but effective to antihistaminics and/or antiasthmatics.
