Cranial morphology of the round goby gobius melanostomus and syrman goby gobius syrman in relation to their position in the genus gobius sensu lato

Cranial morphology of the round goby gobius melanostomus and syrman goby gobius syrman in relation to their position in the genus gobius sensu lato

Voprosy Ikhtiologii 29(2): 186-197

A detailed description of the crania structure of G. melanostomus and G. syrman was presented. The comparative data on these 2 spp. and on G. fluviatilis indicate significant phylogenetic affinity between G. melanostomus G. fluviatilis, which should be affiliated with the same subgenus Apollonia. Weak morphological divergence of subspecies of G. melanostomus was noted.
