Determining the pathogenicity of isolates of septoria nodorum berk. and septoria tritici rob. et desm. in wheat

Two methods were developed for evaluating the pathogenicity of Septoria nodorum and S. tritici isolates in a laboratory: the 1st is a rapid method for determining pathogenicity on plants at the stage of sprouting and the 2nd method is based on the determination of pathogenic properties of the fungi on adult plants. The level of plant affection and the intensity of sporulation serve as criteria for determining pathogenicity by the 1st method. The 2nd method is based on a decrease in wheat productivity as a result of Septoria infections. An equation is proposed which makes it possible to calculate yield losses on the basis of the level of the affection of the flag leaf.
