Diet of pyrenean newt larvae euproctus asper in the prepyrenees of cerdana spain

Diet of pyrenean newt larvae euproctus asper in the prepyrenees of cerdana spain

Amphibia-Reptilia 13(2): 157-167

Feeding habits and seasonal diet of Pyrennean newt larvae, Euproctus asper, were studied in the pre-Pyrennean mountains of Cerdanya (Spain). Larvae of Diptera were the main prey both in number and in biomass, followed by larvae of Plecoptera and Ephemeroptera. The modal length of the prey was 1.5-2 mm, the mean 3.02 mm. There was a significant correlation (rs = 0.38) between the mean prey length and the body length of newt larvae.
