Different flowering response of anthurium scherzerianum schott types

Different flowering response of anthurium scherzerianum schott types

Gartenbauwissenschaft 56(4): 163-169

Investigations with different clones of Anthurium scherzerianum revealed, that the juvenile phase ends with the development of the 6th leaf. The flower formation obviously is independent from the environment because in the generative phase a flower is initiated in each leaf axil. It was possible to identify different flowering types for the investigated clones. Whole year flowering genotypes do not have a 'cold requirement' for a premature flower development. For genotypes with a flowering rhythm the flower development can be promoted by lowering the temperature. Between these extremes transition stages exist. Inflorescences can stay dormant but still alive in the leaf axil up to 7 months.
