Dyspepsia nonulcerous dyspepsia and nonorganic dyspepsia i. concept classification and clinical manifestations

Dyspepsia nonulcerous dyspepsia and nonorganic dyspepsia i. concept classification and clinical manifestations

Revista Espanola de las Enfermedades del Aparato Digestivo 74(3): 285-288

The concept of dyspepsia is widely extended throughout every branch of medicine, but this excessive extension sharply limits its practical utility. On the other part, there are few communications, either national or international, that review in depth this controversial field of gastroenterology. We decided to make an exhaustive study, subdivided into three chapters, of dyspepsia in general and non-organic dyspepsia in particular. In the first part of the review the term is delimited as much as possible, and its incidence and prevalence in the general population are commented. A classification oriented toward use in routine clinical practice is proposed and an attempt is made to unify criteria and terminology. Finally, a quick description is offered of the clinical picture of non-organic dyspepsia.
