Effect of certain calcium channel inhibitors on d 2 receptor mediated responses haloperidol induced catalepsy and apomorphine induced locomotor changes

The influence of acute intraperitoneal injections of three calcium channel inhibitors, nifedipine, nicardipine and verapamil, on behavioral changes induced by drugs stimulating (apomorphine) or blocking (haloperidol) dopaminergic D2 receptors was studied in male Wistar rats. Haloperidol-induced catalepsy assessed by two methods was, in general, potentiated by both dihydropyridines and verapmil. Stereotypy induced by a postsynaptic dose (1.0 mg/kg) of apomorphine remained without change, while hypolocomotion induced by a low, presynaptic dose of apomorphine (0.1 mg/kg) was attenuated by dihyropyridines, but not by verapamil.
