Effect of criss crossing with upland simmental and red holstein friesian breeds on milk production of cows

It was intended by the authors to derive a modern dual purpose genotype which by virtue of its flexible adaptability can meet the demands of both large- and small-scale farms in case the prevailing farm conditions cannot satisfy the needs of the specialized dairy genotypes. Based on results obtained, it was established that of the genotypes employed in the criss-crossing, the Holstein Friesian produced substantial improvement in those traits for which it was more superior to its partner. There was no increase in heterogeneity as a result of crossing. The 4-5% increase in milk production was attributed to heterosis effect.
