Effect of different pinching times and photoperiodic treatments on the lateral shoot growth and flowering of liatris spicata cultivar floristan violet for cut flower cultivation

Effect of different pinching times and photoperiodic treatments on the lateral shoot growth and flowering of liatris spicata cultivar floristan violet for cut flower cultivation

Journal of the Korean Society for Horticultural Science 31(2): 169-175

This study was carried out to clarify the effect of different pinching times and photoperiodic treatments on the lateral shoot growth and flowering of Liatris spicata cv. Floristan Violet for cut flower cultivation. This study was extended further to investigate relationship between the activity of endogenous growth substances and lateral shoot growth or development. 1. Lateral shoots were tended to initiated and elongated much longer when plants were pinched in the earlier growth stage (i.e., stem elongated below 10cm) than did later. 2. Plants grown under long photoperiod conditions had long stems and well grown shoots after pinching. Whereas, those grown under the shoot photoperiod had short stems with few lateral shoots and accelerated bulbil formation. 3. Lateral shoot or bubil formation might be associated with endogenous inhibitor level of stems.
