Effect of fenamiphos on population dynamics of meloidogyne incognita and on yield of tomatoes

Populations of Meloidogyne incognita and M. javanica on tomato [Lycopersicon esculentum cv. Rodade] were controlled by a fenamiphos application prior to planting. This application kept the roots free from root-knot nematodes for the entire growth period. Applications 29 and 66 days after planting, before the start of the second or third generation of Meloidogyne spp. in the roots respectively, killed many infective juveniles in the roots. Populations increased again after the nematicide had lost its efficacy. Although plant deterioration slowed down and some loss of yield was prevented, applications of fenamiphos after planting were less effective than the application prior to planting.
