Effect of fistulation diet and climate on physiological reactions of crossbred steer 7 8 and 1 2 holstein zebu and 7 8 zebu holstein

This experiment was conducted at the Animal Housing facilities at the Universidade Federal de Vicosa, UFV. Fifteen steers from three genetic groups (7/8 Holstein and 1/8 Zebu (HZ); 1/2 Holstein and 1/2 Zebu (HZ) 7/8 Zebu and 1/8 Holstein (ZB) were used to verify the fistulation influence and obtain a digestion collection from the ilium and abonasum concerning the physiological reactions from these animals in total confinement. The temperature and relative humidity varied between 16.8 and 22.9 degrees Centrigrate and 57.2 and 88.7% during data collection for the physiological variables studied. The effects from the fistulation did not reduce the rectal temperatures, respiratory rates or the erythrocyte, hemoglobin rate and hematocrit. There were modifications in the plasmatic protein values (P < 0.05). In the animals involved in the abdominal digestion collection, the respiratory frequency was reduced (P < 0.05), and the number of erythrocyte were increased, as well as the plasmatic protein level and the hematocrit percentual volume (P < 0.05). The 7/8 HZ steer presented lower erythrocyte, hemoglobin and hematocrit levels than those with a higher degree of zebu blood (P < 0.05). It was observed similar plasmatic protein concentration among the three genetic groups (P < 0.05).
