Effect of mixing of roughages succulent and concentrate feeds on fattening calves

Effect of mixing of roughages succulent and concentrate feeds on fattening calves

Zhivotnov"dni Nauki 26(7): 9-12

A performance experiment was conducted to establish the effect of mixing of roughages, succulent and concentrate feeds on fattening calves. For that purpose were formed two groups, each of eight calves, belonging to the Black and White breed, equalized on basis on analogues. At the time of the experiment, lasting 180 days, calves of the control and the experimental group were fed the same diet consisting (on dry matter percentage) of concentrates 34.99% corn silage 28.29%, straw 33.00%, urea 1.85%, and a supplement of minerals and vitamins 1.87%. The feeds were offered to the control group separately and to the experimental group as a mixture. A tendency was observed (P > 0.05) towards an enhanced feed conversion ratio (8.4%) when fattening calves on a complete diet containing roughages, succulent and concentrate feeds, compared to feeding the same feeds separately providing the same by matter intake.
