Effect of nitrogen levels and planting materials on growth and yield of turmeric curcuma longa l

Field experiments were conducted during 1982-83 and 1983-84 to study the response of turmeric to varying levels of nitrogen (0, 60 and 120 kg/ha) and planting of two types of corm (fresh and mother corm) at Vegetable Research Station of N.D. University of Agriculture and Technology, Faizabad [India]. Plant growth was vigorous at the highest level of nitrogen application. Increasing levels of nitrogen brought about corresponding increase in all yield contributing characters. Maximum corm yield (43.73 q/ha) was recorded by the application of 120 kg N/ha. Superior corm yield was recorded by planting of mother corm over fresh corm.
