Field experiments were conducted during rabi seasons of 1984-85 and 1985-86 at Pantnagar to study the effect of nitrogen on seed yield, N uptake, recovery of applied nitrogen and N use efficiency of mustard under different irrigation schedulings. Application of nitrogen beyond 80 kg ha-1 didnot significantly increase the yield while N uptake was maximum at 120 kg ha-1 under irrigated conditions. Higher nitrogen recovery and N use efficiency were obtained with the application of 80 kg N ha-1 under two irrigations and with 40 kg N ha-1 when no irrigation was applied (unirrigated).
