With different kinds of fertilizers (N.P.K) used in field trials in 1985, the relations between anatomical structure, chemical composition of stalk and the lodging trait in maize were studied. The results showed different fertilizers had significant influence upon the stalk morphology, chemical composition and dissected structure. Lodging rates associated closely with the content of potassium and rough fibre, the area of vascular bundle and rind thickness in transverse section stalk. Increasing the quantity of potash fertilizer raised the content of potassium and rough fibre and promoted the developing of sclerified stalk tissue and the vascular bundle, which heightened stalk strength and lightened lodging and increased the yield in maize.
