Effect of organic manure for the growth and oil yield in palmarosa in chromite overburdens

Comparative growth performance of palmarosa (Cymbopogon martini Wats. var. motia) in the normal latteritic soil, chromite overburderns and overburden soil amended with organic manure at the ratio of 1:1, 2:1 and 3:1 were recorded. The plant height, number of tillers per clump, internode length, inflorescence length, leaf area, leaf weight, chlorophyll content, stomatal size and herb yield were found to be highly significant. No significant change in the oil content of palmarosa were recorded among the treatments except chromite overburden. The above treatment was found to be the best for all the growth parameters and oil yields have found suitable for palmarosa cultivation.
