Effects of deep plowing and soil improvements on the change of chemical properties of paddy soil

A series of experiments were carried out from 1982 ato 1987 to evaluate the effects of the improvement by application of N.P.K. fertilizers, compost, silicate and deep plowing on the changes of soil chemical properties and rice yields at high yielding paddy field. The soil properties were better condition for plant growth in the order of annually improvement > residual effect > check treatment in both standard and heavy treatment. The content of organic matter and available P2O5 were not increased but available SiO2 was increased by deep plowing and silicate application. The rice yields were higher in the order of annually improvement > residual effect > check plot and there was a positive correlation between K/.sqroot.Ca+Mg of the soil and rice yields. The yield of residual plot was higher than check plot for only two years, but its were reduced after them. As consequence, it seemed that the effects of integrated soil improvement continued about two years.
