We have shown in this study that enhanced venous return modifies ANF secretion at rest but the response to exercise is unchanged. The data suggest that ANF release during exercise is influenced by stimuli other enhanced central venous pressure such as cardiac frequency of B-endorphin release. The ANF increase during exercise does not inhibit aldosterone secretion; it results in a concomittent increase in ANF and aldosterone. Further studies are necessary to elucidate the factors involved in ANT secretion during exercise.
