Effects of pre harvest removal of lower leaves on yield and quality in flue cured and air cured tobaccos i. flue cured tobacco mc 1 and air cured tobacco siroenshu 1

Japan Tobacco Incrch-Report. 1988; (2): 95-108

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of pre-harvest removal of lower leaves on yield and quality in flue-cured and air-cured tobaccos. Field experiment was made on MC 1 and Siroenshu 1 in 1983. Prior to harvesting, six lowermost leaves were removed per plant at three different period (15-16 days before topping, 6 days before topping and topping stage). Removal of leaves in any date did not affect growth, maturity and quality of cured leaves. But the yield of tobaccos removed lower leaves was lower than that of tobacco not removed by the weight of removed leaves.
