An experiment was conducted with three groups, each of 40 high producing fine fleece ewes in first lactation. Animal live weight was 80-85 kg, wool performance 12 kg, fecundity 150%, and milk production for a lactation period 100-130 kg. The experiment comprised the initial three lactation months. The average daily intake of ewes of group 1 (control) was 21.3 MJ ME, and of the experimental group 2 and group 3 16.4 and 26.5 MJ ME, respectively. Live weight of ewes of group 1, group 2, and group 3 increased by 6.7, 2.6, and 8.0 kg. The average daily milk yield for the experimental period was 0.960, 0.852, and 1.044 kg and live weight of lambs at weaning (90 days old) 25.8, 23.5, and 27.3 kg, respectively. It was inferred that an average daily intake of 26.5 MJ ME in the early (90 day) lactation of Northeast Bulgarian Fine Fleece ewes in first lactation would provide for a high milk production, lamb development, and qualitative and quantitative wool performance.
