Abstract
EPR spectroscopy showed the absence of the pheomelanin component in melanosomes of the brown wool of Australian Merino and Romney Marsh sheep. The genotype of these animals was determined. The genetic determination of the "recessive" brown color is in principle different from the brown-red color of sheep from Asia, controlled by the interaction of gene AWt with alleles EBl, EBr, EY.
