Feeding standards for growing and beef cattle according to the french system inra 1988

Feeding standards for growing and beef cattle according to the french system inra 1988

Biuletyn Informacyjny Instytut Zootechniki 29(1-4): 126-159

Feeding standards for growing and beef cattle, based on the French recommendations (INRA, 1988), have been presented. The paper decribes the principles applied in calculations of energy, protein and mineral requirements. It describes also feed intake capacity of animals, the principles of diet formulation and gives examples of diets for calves, heifers (beef and breeding heifers), growing bulls, breeding bulls and culled cows. The data required for diet formulation (without using a computer) are given in 18 tables. Energy requirements for culled cows and animals gaining less than 1 kg/d (calves, growing bulls and heifers, breeding bulls) were expressed in terms of milk production units (JPM/d), while the requirements of fast growing animals, gaining more than 1 kg/d (bulls and heifers), were expressed in terms of meat production units (JPZ/d). Protein requirements were expressed in terms of protein digested in the small intestine (g BTJ/d). Energy values of feeds were expressed in terms of JPM and JPZ while those of protein are given as g BTJ/N/ and g BTJ/E/, per 1 kg (as fed) and 1 kg feed DM. Feed intake capacity (ZPP) and fill value of feeds (WW) for dairy cows and beef cattle were expressed in tems of dairy cow fill units (JWK) and beef cattle fill units (JWB), respectively.
