Genetic analysis of earliness characters in upland cotton gossypium hirsutum l

The parental (P1 and P2) F1, F2, F3 and back cross (B1 and B2) generations of two intervarietal crosses, H 655 .times. Super Okra and H 777 .times. Coker 417, were evaluated for days to flower, days to boll opening and first fruiting branch node number at two locations. The generation means analysis showed that the inheritance of the earliness characters seemed to be complex as the digenic or higher order epistatic effects were present in both crosses. Invariably, additive and additive .times. additive effects were significant for all the three traits across locations. Dominance and dominance .times. dominance effects were detected only for days to flower and boll opening. Additive and additive .times. additive effects can be utilized for isolating recombinants in segregating generations.
