Genetic analysis of morpho physiological traits of barley flag leaf

Scientia Agricultura Sinica 24(1): 20-26

A 8 .times. 8 diallel cross was made for investigating the genetic basis of barley flag leaf length, width, area, blade angle, upright angle and bend degree. Diallel analysis on F1 showed that the characters studied, except bend degree, were controlled by the additive-dominance genetic system in which additive effect played a more important role than non-additive effect. Low value of upright angle was governed by dominant allels, and high value was partially dominant in the other traits. In F2 population of the six characters, the variants were continuous and the transgressive hybrid vigors were insignificant. Flag area was positively correlated with length and width. Blade angle, upright angle and bend degree were correlated with flag length positively, and negatively with width.
