Genetic and nongenetic parameters of birth weight and weaning weight in rambouillet and rambouillet x gaddi sheep

Birth weight and weaning weight data pertaining to Rambouillet and its crosses with Gaddi maintained at Sheep Breeding and Research Farm Billawar/Sarthal (J. and K.) revealed that birth weight was significantly (P < 0.01) influenced by genetic groups, period of birth, type of birth, sex and parity of dam. Type of birth influenced weaning weight significantly (P < 0.05). Rest of the genetic and nongenetic parameters influenced weaning weight in the manner of birth weight. Weaning weight was also significantly (P < 0.01) influenced by birth weight and weaning age groups. These results conclusively indicated that birth weights and weaning weights are probably aligned.
