Gypsiferous soils in fergana valley uzbek ssr ussr and the problems associated with their reclamation

Pochvovedenie (3): 105-117

Accumulative and eluvial-accumulative gypsic soils occurring in the Fergana valley are characterized in details. Their systematic is proposed, genetic bonds with other soils of gypsic family (shokh, arzyk soils) are shown. The origin of these soils is related to paleogeographic and tectonic processes, having formed the present environment of the valley. Part of gypsic soils may be reclaimed for irrigated farming and the possibilities of reclamation are discussed, taking account of usual mistakes and negative consequences of standard approaches to gypsic soil irrigation.
