In vitro activity of 6 systemic antifungal agents against 11 malassezia furfur isolates

The activity of 6 systemic antifungal agents was evaluated against 11 M. furur isolates. Concerning azole compounds, MIC ranges were: itraconazole 0.04 to 0.08 .mu.g/ml; ketoconazole 0.06 to 0.1 .mu.g/ml except one isolate (MIC > 0.32 .mu.g/ml): miconazole 0.6 to 1.6 except one resistant isolate (MIC > 10 .mu.g/ml); fluconazole 0.5 to 10 .mu.g/ml. For amphotericin B, MIC were superior to 2 .mu.g/ml. For flucytosine, MIC were superior to 200 .mu.g/ml but, in this case, results were difficult to consider because the medium contained 1% peptone.
