Four hexaploid triticale varieties (Beagle, Coorong, TL 419 and Welsh) were treated with-gamma rays (100 Gy, 200 Gy, 300 Gy) and EMS (0.5%-8 hr, 12 hr, 16 hr) to isolate viable morphological mutants. Twenty two morphological mutant types affecting plant form, growth, leaf and spike characters were isolated in M2 populations. Sixteen out of these twenty two types, are reported for the first time. Mutation frequencies showed increases with an increase in the dose of gamma rays of length of EMS treatment. Based on segregation data, the mutants were classified into 3 groups-mutants exhibiting (i) monogenic recessive inheritance, (ii) polygnenic control, and (iii) chromosomal disorders.
