Influence of genetic and reclamation conditions of saline and alkali soils upon the reclamation rate and their yielding ability

The genetical and reclamation conditions of the saline and alkali soils in the Calmatui Valley [Romania] under natural regime, strongly influence the desalinization and/or de-alkalization rates, as well as the level of agricultural yields. The reclamation technologies easily remove the limitative and restrictive action of the salic and salinized horizons; they remove moderately the action of the natric and alkalized horizons, significantly changing the conditions of soil genesis and reclamation. On the contrary, the limitative and restriction actions of the vertic, gleyic, pseudogleyic and pseudogleyed horizons is very difficult to be changed. During soil reclamation and intensive agricultural exploitation periods, the yield level of a large range of crops (sorghum, Sudan grass, fodder beet, winter wheat etc.) is lower, in case they are cultivated on a soil resulted from reclamation of the gleyic-vertic-mollic solonchak-solonetz, but higher in the case of mollic solonetz with columns at low depth, weakly salinized. The yield level of the above-mentioned crops obtained on soils resulted from the reclamation of strongly gleyed mollic solonetz-solonchak is an intermediated one.
