Karyokinetic and karyometric responses of the uropygial gland to castration in male roseringed parakeet psittacula krameri neumann

Effects of surgical removal of both the testes on the mitotic activity and the diameter of nucleus in the parenchymal cells in the uropygial gland of adult roseringed parakeet have been studied. Castration caused significant reduction in the number of dividing cells, but did not influence shape and size of the nuclei in resting cells in the uropygial gland. The study reveals that the testes play essential role in the regulation of mitiotic activity of parenchymal cells in the uropygial gland.
