Life history of the coronate scyphozoan Linuche unguiculata (Swartz, 1788)

Caribbean Journal of Science 23(3-4): 432-443

ISSN/ISBN: 0008-6452

The complete life history of the coronate medusa Linuche unguiculata (Swartz, 1788), is described for the first time. A colonial, nonbranching scyphistoma previously known as Stephanoscyphus komaii Leloup, 1937 is shown to be the sessile stage. All stages in the life cycle were cultured and observed in the laboratory and are described; most are illustrated. Scyphistomae and ephyrae collected from the sea also are described and illustrated.
