European Journal of Forest Pathology 20(3): 129-139

The colour measurement by spectrocolorimeter of the spruce needles is proposed to detect objectively the visual colour change of the needles in the experimental opentop chambers with and without the exclusion of the air pollutants. This method is already used in the case of five year-old spruce plantation in that experiemntal chambers, located at the neck of Donon (Vosges, France). The comparison of the results suggest different sites (chambers) and the various spruce provenances, through the CIELAB colour parameters and also by the way of the shape of the reflectance curves (analysed by the mean of the Fourier transformation), shows the significant effect of the polluted and unpolluted sites on the yellowishness of the needles, especially for the a and h colour parameters, even the first years of planting.
