Mosquito fauna of gurgaon district with special reference to vectors of filaria malaria and dengue fever

During an intensive survey of different species of mosquitoes in Gurgaon district of Haryana State between 1983 to 1984, 148 Anopheles culicifacies, 128 An. stephensi, 912 An. subpictus, 59 An. maculatus, 11 An. pulcherrimus, 273 An. annularia, 335 Culex quinquefasciatus, 40 culex pipiens fatigans, 53 Aedes aegypti and 35188 immature stage specimen were collected. Out of 6 Anopheles species recorded in the district 2 are recognized as vectors of malaria. These are An. culicifacies and An. stephensi. Ae. aegypti and Cx. quinquefaciatus were also recorded, which are potential vectors of dengue fever and filariasis, respectively.
