Abstract
Numerical classification of twenty-six soils belonging to the Mollisols, Entisols, Inceptisols and Alfisols of tarai region of Uttar Pradesh was done using the methods and techniques suggested by Arkley. The taxonomic structure, worked out from the dissimilarity coefficients, was presented using the cluster analysis technique of Unweighted Pair Group Method Using Arithmetic Averages (UPGMA). The grouping of soils on the basis of numerical classification was, in general, in conformity with their classification according to Soil Taxonomy (USDA).
