Observations on the effect of interleukins on the mouse glomerular mesangial cells and the interleukin 1 produced by mesangial cells

To investigate the relationship between interleukins and glomerular mesangial cells (MC), the culture of mouse MC and ConA activated mouse thymus lymphocytes were used to examined the level of IL-1 produced by MC and the effect of interleukins on Mc. The results showed: The uptake of 3H-TdR into MC were markedly enhanced by IL-1, IL-4 and IL-6, but not IL-2. The activity of IL-1 produced by MC were higher than that of controls. This study suggests the IL-1 can be produced by MC and the proliferation of MC can be stimulated by IL-1. This result may be important in the pathogenesis of glomerulonephritis.
