Physiological disorders of the fruit occurring oriental pears of pyrus pyrifolia and pyrus ussuriensis

The physiological disorders of watercore, browning, pithiness, breakdown, darkening and mealiness occurring in the fruit of orietnal pears of P. pyrifolia and P. ussuriensis were described. A total of 29 cultivars and cross selections observed exhibited a discrete difference in the susceptibility to the disorder development. Among the disorders, the symptom severity of pithiness increased with advancing maturity. During storage, the longer storage led to the higher development of the pithiness in the short and long keeping cultivars. It is revealed that weather conditions exert a strong influence on the development of the pithiness in the susceptible cultivars: a highly significant positive correlation was noted between the development and parameters of temperatures (mean, maximum and daily fluctuations) during later part of growing season while highly negatively correlated with parameters of rains.
