Polymorphism of blood serum amylase in polish large white pigs

Polymorphism of blood serum amylase in polish large white pigs

Prace i Materialy Zootechniczne (40): 95-100

Amylase genotypes (Am1) were determined in the blood plasma of 2075 Polish Large White (PL) pigs. Three genotypes, AA, AB and BB, were found. The frequency of allele occurrence was: Am1A = 0.111, Am1B = 0.899. .alpha.-amylase activity, calcium level in the blood serum, analysis of meat performance indicators of porkers in relation to this enzyme activity were examined on a small number of animals. Individuals of Am1 AA genotypes were characterized by significantly higher activity of .alpha.-amylase when compared with those of BB genotype. The enzyme activity in the AB genotype group was intrmediate. No relationship was found between .alpha.-amylase activity and calcium level. The heritability coefficient for .alpha.-amylase activity was h2 = 0.39. Correlation coefficients between the enzyme activity and selected meat performance indicators were low.
