Prevalence of gastro intestinal helminths in sheep and goats at faisalabad pakistan abattoir

Pakistan Veterinary Journal 9(4): 159-161

Five hundred guts, comprising 250 each from sheep and goats, were examined for parasites. The prevalence of helminths was 58.4 and 54.4 per cent in sheep and goats, respectively. The relative prevalence of trematodes, cestodes and nematodes was 20.8, 14.4 and 23.2 per cent in sheep and 19.6, 13.2 and 21.6 per cent in goats, respectively. There species each of trematodes (Paramphistomum cervi, P. explanatum and Cotylophoron cotylophorum); cestodes (Moniezia expansa, M. benedeni and Avitellina centripunctata) and eight species of nematodes (Haemonchus contortus, Oesophagostomum venulosum, Bunostomum trigonocephalum, Chabertia ovina, Cooperia cruticei, Trichuris ovis, Ostertagia circumcincta and O. ostertagi) were recorded.
