Protein content and its gel electrophoresis analysis in hybrids derived from crosses between triticum aestivum and triticum durum

The grain protein contents of 14 lines selected from the hybrids Triticum aestivum .times. T. durum and the amino acid components in seven of these lines were analyzed. The mean value of grain protein content of the seven selected lines derived from Kechun14 .times. D213 was 18.45%, and higher than that of their parents (15.04%). And the average value of grain protein content of another seven selected lines derived from Kenya .times. Applo was 18.42%, also higher than that of their parents. The grain amino acid content increased with the increase of grain protein content. For example, the protein content of a selected line KA20 (20.13%) was higher than that of its maternal Kenya (16.01%), and the grain lysine content of KA20 (0.4174) was also higher than that of Kenya (0.3172). This experimented results indicates that high protein content type can be obtained by transferring effective gene(s) of T. durum to common wheat. The above-mentioned lines also showed some differences in electrophoresis patterns. It seems that we may identify hybrids according to their electrophoresis patterns.
