Of nine different fungicides tested, cyproconazole and benodanil were most effective and prochloraz was least effecitve against several isolates of both Rhizoctonia cerealis and R. solani. R. solani was more sensitive to triadimefon and fenpropimorph and less sensitive to imazalil than R. cerealis. Pencycuron strongly inhibited R. solani but had little effect on R. cerealis. The optimum temperatures for linear growth were 22.degree. and 27.degree. C for R. cerealis and R. solani, respectively. Modified Gangopadhyay and Grover medium (GG medium) containing imazalil allowed selective recovery of R. solani, whereas GG medium with pencycuron and triadimefon allowed selective recovery of R. cerealis from soil inoculated with propagules of both species.
