Relationships between body measurements and the performance of barrows and gilts of the dam breeds

Relationships between body measurements and the performance of barrows and gilts of the dam breeds

Zivocisna Vyroba 34(9): 857-862

In 484 barrows and gilts of the maternal Large White, Landrace, and Prestice Black Pied breed subjected to various measurements, the relationships of the performance parameters and body measurements of the animals (expressed by seven traits and one index) were evaluated by means of correlation coefficients. The average daily weight gain was 599.4 g (s = 34.88) in the barrows and 559.6 g (s = 36.56) in the gilts. Highly significant correlation coefficients were recorded in the sows of the Prestice Black Pied Breed (r = 0.48 to 0.71). No statistically significant relationships were demonstrated to influence the performance of the animals.
