Remote hybridization in the genus cucumis i. a bridge hybrid cucumis melo var agrestis x cucumis melo var flexuosus

Genetika i Selektsiya 24(4): 289-291

Due to high incompatibility between C. sativus and the wild species of the genus Cucumis, remote hybridization in this genus was not successful so far. Hybridization in the genus was not successful so far. Hybrids between cucumber and C. sativus ssp. regidus var. sikimensis, which has a certain tolerance to powdery mildew, were produced at the Maritsa Institute of Vegetable Crops. The cross C. melo var. agrestis .times. C. melo var. flexiosus was included in the hybridization programs as a bridge in overcoming the incompatibility between C. sativus and the wild species in the genus Cucumis.
