Researches on the dormancy of the cercis siliquastrum l. seed cytological study of the endosperm during its maturation

Bollettino Societa Italiana Biologia Sperimentale 64(10): 931-938

Endosperm development in Cercis siliquastrum L. has been followed from the start of its cellularization to the complete maturity of the seed (whose dormancy is due to the endosperm) by means of histochemical tests for lipids, proteins, carbohydrates, phenolics. Lipid accumulation begins before that of proteins; as soon as protein reagents (Hg bromophenol blue, acid fuchsin) reveal protein bodies formation, these always give also positive responses to the reagents for carbohydrates (PAS, ruthenium red) and phenolics (Turnbull's test, autofluroescence), indicating them as essential constituents, in Cercis, of these storage organelles.
