Residual effect of irrigation phosphorus and weed control treatment applied to summer cowpea vigna unguiculata on yield and nutrient uptake by fodder sorghum sorghum bicolor and weeds in the rainy season

A field experiment was conducted during 1986 and 1987 at New Delhi (India) to study the residual effect of irrigation, phosphorus and weed-control treatments applied to preceding summer cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.] on yield and nutrient uptake by succeeding fodder sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench.] as well as nutrient concentration in weeds growing with fodder sorghum. Irrigation and weed-control treatments applied to preceding summer cowpea significantly increased the dry forage yield of sorghum. Nutrient content and uptake were also favourable influence. Nitrogen content of horse purslane (Trianthema portulacastrum L; syn T. monogyna L.) was also enhanced by different treatments.
