Field experiments were conducted to study the residues of endosulfan in Indian colza crop and carbaryl on brinjal fruits. Endosulfan was sprayed on Indian colza crop at the pod formation stage and carbaryl was sprayed on brinjal crop at the fruiting stage. Residues or both the insecticides were estimated in the samples at different intervals with a view to determine desirable waiting periods and to advise the consumer and farmer about the time lag between the spraying and harvest of the crop. A minimum waiting period of 10 days for endosulfan and 7 days for carbaryl is suggested, if the samples are offered for consumption. Processing samples (i.e. washing and boiling/cooking) removed the toxicants to a considerable extent.
