Serological specificity of membrane protein antigen extracted from xanthomonas campestris pathovar oryzae

Ouchterlony gel double diffusion reactions between each antiserum to the membrane protein complexes (MPC) of Korean race K1 (88015), K2 (88021), K3 (88025), Japanese race I (H87155) and II (H87146) of Xanthomonas campestris pv. oryzae and the MPC from which the antiserum was made, showed a clear precipitation line near the peripheral (antigen) well. The line was absent in the reactions between the above antisera and the MPCs of nine other X. campestris pathovars indicating that the line may be pathovar oryzae specific. Antiserum to the MPC of 88021 (K2) that was cross-absorbed to the MPC of H87155 (I) made a precipitation line with the K2 MPC at middle of the antigen-antiserum wells on gel double diffusion field but did not react with MPCs of other races. In the crossed immunoelectrophoresis, 5 precipitation lines were made in the serological reaction between the same races but 3 lines were in the reactions between different races of X. c. pv. oryzae.
